Ron Hettler, CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor) breaks it down for owners, contractors, subcontractors, landlords, and tenants:📋 WHAT IS ADDITIONAL INSURED, PLAIN ENGLISHAn additional insured (AI) is a person or business added to SOMEONE ELSE'S liability policy by endorsement, so they get coverage for claims tied to that named insured's work. They don't own the policy. They don't pay the premium. They get named on the endorsement — and only then do they actually have coverage rights.✅ WHAT AI STATUS ACTUALLY GETS YOU• Access to defense costs under the named insured's policy• Access to settlement payments for claims tied to the named insured's work• Claims stay on the named insured's loss history — NOT yours• Your own premiums are protected🚨 CERTIFICATE HOLDER vs ADDITIONAL INSURED — THE #1 CONFUSIONA CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE ≠ ADDITIONAL INSURED STATUS.
