As you may know, this week is National Veterans Small Business Week. But, you may not know that every November Progressive Insurance has a one-day vehicle giveaway program for some lucky veterans. It’s called the Keys to Progress® Program (#KeysToProgress), Giving Back to Those Who Gave So Much. Since 2013, the program has donated more than 600 vehicles to our veterans and various veteran organizations. It’s not just for cars, either. In 2018, the program awarded an Army veteran trucker with a Freightliner big rig truck (18-wheeler).
The Keys to Progress program is one way Progressive Insurance puts some of their core values into action and gives back to people who’ve given so much for our country.
The Progressive program seeks to fill a need in our communities by providing support to military men and women in the form of transportation. The program focuses on those veterans with tough circumstances ranging from personal, family, health, unemployment, or homelessness. Progressive’s core value there is the “golden rule”.
This year, a lucky veteran here in Lubbock, Texas, received a Volkswagen via the Keys To Progress program. Hettler Insurance Agency has been a contributor to the program since the beginning, so one of our agents was there at the vehicle giveaway event to snap a few photos.

The veterans have to qualify with a few criteria to be considered for a vehicle. Some of the criteria include:
- must be able to carry auto insurance and maintain the vehicle
- possess valid drivers license
- fall below 200% of federal poverty guidelines
- be able to cover legal obligations like title transfer fees, sales tax and fees
